Education in India is slowly gaining importance and setting of institutions of national importance like IIITs in rural areas is the best example. Governments and several NGOs continue to bring in lot of changes in the society through spreading the importance of education. In this context even MBA education in India is no exception.

General MBA programmes under the recognition of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have come up at all reputed engineering and Technology institutes as engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) education which go hand in hand with interrelated subjects such as production management, operations management, operations research, inventory management, among others.

MBA education in India has seen new heights after the economic boom in 1990s, when many multinational companies started setting up their development centres in India. Simultaneously, Indian IT industry has reached out to many overseas clients in their knowledge process outsourcing and business process outsourcing. There has been increasing demand for managers globally and the Business Management institutes meet the needs and produce quality results every year. MBA degree offers lot many choices for procuring a lucrative job. Banks, financial institutions, business houses and other engineering and process companies are few options to work for after procuring MBA degree.

Because of the growing popularity of the MBA degree, several new colleges and Universities are setting up their centres in India. This course is offered as a full time course for students and working professionals have the opportunity to enroll for part time courses conducted during evening time and weekends. Apart from these two, MBA degree in India is offered through distance learning mode as well.

In India the premier institutes offering MBA degree are the Indian Institute of Management which are a group of 13 institutes spread all over India in various states. These institutes offer postgraduate, executive programme and doctoral programmes.  A common entrance test known as CAT is conducted every year. Best students among the lot are selected based on their performance in the entrance and personal interview.

Eligibility for MBA in India
Any Graduate degree holders can apply for the common entrance test conducted by IIMS and other B- schools. There is an increasing trend for the companies scouting for a combination of an MBA degree with an engineering degree.
MBA is usually a two year course which culminates with the project submission by the student. The student gets industry exposure in the last semester. All big names in the industry make an MOU with the leading B-schools and visit the college campuses to select the best students for their company requirements.

Along with IIMs other leading institutes like XLRI, TISS and IRMA offer MBA courses. The important common entrance exams which aim to get a seat in MBA course are CAT, conducted by IIMs, XAT conducted by XLRI institute Jamshedpur, IIFT is the entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi and Kolkatta and SNAP is the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test for admission into Symbiosis institutes in Pune and other places.
